The Chorisia (Silk floss tree) is a branched tree with light green palmate leaves. The trees grow straight and narrow at the beginning, then slowly develop umbrella canopies as they age. The green trunk is covered with big blunt triangular spines and grey as the tree gets older. The Chorisia let the leaves fall just before they bloom.
The flowers vary from light pink to pink to purple or burgundy. The flowers are followed by pear-shaped fruit, filled with numerous seeds embedded in silky white floss.
