Dicksonia antarctica is a tree fern. Originally from Tasmania. Its stem can grow in between 3 and 5 cm per year. It's actually not a real stem, but dead leaves and humus. In this humus are the roots of the plant; the roots are growing along with the plant.

Location: shaded or semi-shaded location. The stem should kept wet occasionally so that the roots can absorb the moisture extra well; the stem must not dry out. The Dicksonia is fairly hardy; in its natural habitat it can survive temperatures to -13 degrees. Dicksonia does not require special care. Hardiness Zone 8b (-10 º C).
