Xanthorrhoea is the only species of the family of the grass tree plants (Xanthorrhoeaceae) within the monocots. This species is found only in Australia, they are typical elements of the continent of Australia. The genus name is derived from the Greek word Xanthorrhoea; 'xanthos’ for yellow and ‘rhoe' for power and refers to the resin. Common names for this species are "Black Boy" or "Grass Tree". There are approximately 28 species in this family.
